Punchey
The Boston software company Nathaniel Stevens founded in 2010 to give service businesses the payments, scheduling, and customer tools that, until then, only big chains could afford.
If Yodle was about helping local businesses get found, Punchey is about helping them run. Nathaniel Stevens founded the company in 2010, after watching from inside the Yodle machine how often a great lead was wasted by a business that couldn’t take a payment cleanly, book the next appointment, or remember the customer afterward. Getting the customer was solved. Keeping and serving the customer was not.
Built from the operator’s side of the counter
Punchey is a payments, point-of-sale, scheduling, and CRM platform built specifically for service businesses — the salons, studios, shops, and trades that make up the majority of Main Street but are routinely treated as an afterthought by enterprise software. It bundles card processing, customer records, reviews, marketing, and scheduling into one system priced and designed for a small team rather than an IT department.
The design philosophy traces directly to the Stevens family dealership: software should make the person behind the counter faster and the customer in front of it happier, with as little friction as possible. That is a harder problem than it sounds, and it is exactly the problem Punchey was built to solve.
Leadership built for the next decade
Nathaniel serves as Founder and Executive Chairman. In recent years he has assembled an operating team to carry Punchey forward:
The April 2024 addition of David Olk — co-founder of ShopKeep, one of the most successful small-business POS companies of the prior decade — to Punchey’s board (announced via PR Newswire) signaled the company’s seriousness about the payments category and brought a second proven SMB-software operator into the room.
